We love an easy win: Here are ten of them

Jul 07, 2026

Summer felt like a good time to share a few of our favorite life hacks.

Nothing life-changing.

Just little things that make life feel a bit easier.

  1. The driveway pause

Sit in your car for one minute before going inside. It turns out switching between doctor, mom, partner, and human is a real transition.

  1. Write it down

If you keep reminding yourself not to forget something, just write it down. Your brain deserves better jobs.

  1. The 10-minute rule

Don't commit to the workout, the cleaning, or the project. Commit to 10 minutes. Starting is usually the hardest part.

  1. Put it on the calendar

A task with a scheduled time is much less stressful than a task floating around your brain all week.

  1. Leave five minutes earlier

Few things improve your mood faster than not rushing.

  1. Keep a "Things That Went Right" note

Your brain is already collecting evidence for everything that went wrong. Give equal airtime to the other team.

  1. Borrow someone else's calm

Call the friend who always makes everything feel more manageable. Sometimes we don't need advice. We just need their nervous system.

  1. Respond to dramatic thoughts with "Hmm"

Not every thought needs a debate. Sometimes a simple "hmm" is enough.

  1. Move the thing closer

Want to read more? Put the book on the couch. Want to drink more water? Put the water bottle where you'll see it.

  1. Go outside for two minutes

Fresh air is underrated.

Those are a few of our favorites.

But because she'd noticed something: it WORKS.    When she remembers to validate her child instead of arguing with their feelings, things go better.  When she validates a patient who's frustrated, things go better.  Wh...
Come with me: What to do when part of you is afraid
Yesterday you were excited. Today your brain has prepared a 47-slide presentation on why this is a terrible idea. A new job.A move.A boundary.A project you've been thinking about for years. Whatever the change is, your brain suddenly becomes very interested in all the reasons it might go badly. What if I regret it?What if it doesn't work out? What if I'm making a huge mistake? It's tempting to i...
You wanted that too: The thing you don't have might not be evidence of failure
One of the reasons "should" thoughts can be so tricky is that sometimes they're pointing toward something you genuinely care about. Take money, for example. Maybe you've looked at your savings account, your retirement account, or your investments and thought, "I should have more saved by now." And if someone challenged that thought, you might not immediately disagree. Because the truth is, you ...
