Unlock restful nights: Actionable tips for a quieter mind

Jan 30, 2025

Picture this: It's 3 AM. You're wide awake, your mind whirling, replaying that conversation from earlier or second-guessing a clinical decision from the week before.

Ugh…overthinking – where your greatest asset (that clever mind of yours) sometimes feels like your biggest nemesis.

Here's where it gets interesting: You're not just along for the ride – you can actively shape your thinking. Let's examine techniques to stop the swirl:

  1. Call it out the next time your thoughts are spinning. “Looks like my brain is swirling”. Naming it takes away some of its power.

  2. Prescribe some self-compassion: Imagine what you'd say to a friend in your shoes. Now, give yourself that same grace.

  3. Bask in the relief of acknowledgement: Interestingly, acknowledging and validating your own feelings can quiet the mind the way a good conversation with a trusted person does.

  4. Schedule a 15-minute "worry time" later when you can’t shake the thoughts. Your brain can relax knowing it'll get its chance to fret.

Remember, your overthinking isn't a flaw – it's a sign of a mind that cares deeply. But sometimes it just gets a little overzealous and you don't have to let these thought spirals run wild.

And who knows? Maybe you'll even catch some Z's before the morning chaos.

We usually tell ourselves these things because we're trying to stop. A little guilt should help, right? Except it does the opposite. Now you're not just...
Don't think about this: There is a difference between growth and tolerance
You’re learning how to shift your thoughts. And you’re getting kinda good at it.Maybe even a little competitive about it? You’re in a difficult situation and you go to work.Reframing. Searching for a more helpful angle. There must be a way to choose a thought that makes this feel okay. All this thought work feels productive. You want to be an A+ self-coacher. But sometimes thought work turns into...
You're not late: What if this is exactly when it happens
After a long, long time of not exercising consistently, the two of us crossed over the 6-month mark of meeting daily at 5:30am to do strength training.  While every once in a while our brains offer us thoughts of pride in our consistency, way too often we hear the internal refrain of “I should have started this years ago.”  Exercising.Writing.Saving.Setting boundaries.Making that change you kee...
